One More Site

Hello everyone,

I forgot to add one very important site i have found useful over the years.

Imagine if you've ever needed to get some information or download something from a site and got frustrated when they wanted you to register first. Well then you would have chucked up the whole thing rather than go through a very tedious process of making a new username and thinking up a new undecipherable password.

Well, those days are gone now when you have BugMeNot!
http://www.bugmenot.com is the address you should visit. This website gives you usernames and passwords to freely-registrable websites, so that you don't have to go through the hassle of signing up.

Wonderful idea i should say. Give your comments on it.

Cheers,
Ruchira

Open Source Movies (Yay!)

Open Source movies were something i was hoping for a long time. Well, I have to say i'm rather glad it's here to stay.

There are two 3-d animated movies released by the blender foundation. For those of you who are wondering what in the world "blender" is, Blender is an open-source animation tool used in 3-d modeling and animation. The software was developed by the blender foundation (please correct me if i'm wrong).

The first movie release, called "Elephants Dream", was the first ever open-movie. It was released in 18th May '08 by the Blender Foundation

The 2nd movie was called "Big Buck Bunny"(or BBB for short) and got released on the 30th of May '08.

The best part about it is that since both movies are free you can download and watch them on your PC! The DVD versions are available as well at the e-store.
(I saw a little while ago that BBB is on Blu-Ray too!)

Here are the sites:

  • Elephants Dream
http://orange.blender.org
  • Big Buck Bunny
http://www.bigbuckbunny.org
Well, i would advise everyone who can, to watch the two movies and help this project. Three cheers for open source! And a handful more for the Blender Foundation!

Appication of the week

Lets try something new.....shall we?

I'll be introducing an application, which i found useful, every week. I'll add a small description so you can get a better idea

So, without further ado, (ahem!) Taa tara rum tum tum taarrr.....!

The inaugural application of the the week

  • K-Lite Codec Pack
This pack is an extremely useful collection of codecs, which every computer user should have. It offers a large variety of playback and converting options, so that you'll never find out that you can't play the video you just downloaded.

http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

From the site

The K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. The very user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want.

There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: The Basic version, who fits on a single floppy disk, contains only the most essential codecs and related tools. The Standard version contains everything what is needed to play all the commonly used formats. The Full version contains even more codecs and also has encoding support. It is highly recommended to uninstall all existing codec related software before installing. This way your system stays clean and potential problems will be avoided.

Feel free to download and check it out since its freeware

Photography

I'm not that good a photographer i should say first, but i do try to take as many photographs as i can. Sometimes my haphazard endeavours somehow come out pretty good.

I'll leave the comments to all you good people out there.
I'll ask everyone a small question. How many of you like stick-figure anmations?

Well, to be honest i like to watch them, but unfortunately i'm not very good at making them
Anyway, i recently saw on youtube 2 very wonderfully done stick figure animations, and thought i might shere them with you.

There are two parts
Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo1d6ttbAq8

Part 2

Brilliantly done, i'd say and kudos to the animator.

Cheers,
Ruchira

PS-Wonder if he has a 3rd part in mind.
I've been wondering where to start my new blog.
Music, Technology, Photos....?

but then again i decided i might share with everyone out there, a few good sites i've visited so far

so here goes,
  • http://www.damninteresting .com
This is one site where you get all the strange but interesting types of news you would not get elsewhere. I would reccoment if you are into heavy reading :-)

The official site of an indian tech magazine called "IC CHIP". It is a monthly released magazine which covers topics of interest on computer and related technology. I myself have read it and found it to be rather informative in its articles. The site contains partial magazine content and a forum where users may interact.

This is a great site for all you Sri Lankan music fans out there. Has music from major lankan bands and artistes as well as a forum which has a scope wider than just music. Try out for yourself and see.

This is another good site if anyone is interested in a bit of fun and laughter. Has jokes (mostly sinhala) targeted at sinhala-speaking community

I love this blog simply because it has the kind of western music i like. The site is updated daily and has high quality music videos from big to small artistes.

Well, i'll be back again with some more guys (& gals)

Till then,

Cheers,

Ruchira

A Warm Welcome.........

Hello everyone, let me warmly welcome you to my first ever blog (the first ever i managed to start properly, to be honest).

For starters, you might wonder what this blog is about.......(Incidentally i seem to be wondering the same thing!)

Anyway, joking apart, i do not wish to narrow down this blog anything specific. To be quite plain what i want to have is "a healthy mix of everything". (Hmmm..... i'm dead-sure i saw that phrase a few minutes ago!)

During the next few weeks or so i would be introducing things i find interesting during my ventures into the "Net", and i might share a few stories with you as well.

Till we meet again,
Cheers,
Ruchira
